Taipei Destination Consultant
Joseph is a true internationalist. For many years he worked as a professional photographer in Asia and the USA. His photos have appeared on the cover of Newsweek among many other publications. He has covered many Asian countries – India, Pakistan, Korea, the Philippines – as well as China and Taiwan.
After graduating from the University of Iowa with a BFA in photography in 1981 he spent a year and a half in Seattle before continuing further west to Asia. In addition to working as an editor at the China Economic News he began freelancing for American and European publications and businesses. As luck would have it, Taiwan in the 1980s experienced a rapid and mostly peaceful transition from martial law to a fledgling democracy. The world was fascinated by the process, and as one of the only foreign photographers living there, he was on call frequently to document the changes.
With over 20 years connection with Taipei, as well as being a Mandarin speaker, Joe knows exactly what the challenges are of adjusting to life on the island. The mysteries of China are myriad, but he is the ideal consultant to help newcomers find a footing in the city.
