São Paulo Destination Consultant
Priya has long had one foot in Brazil and one in the US. She obtained her original degree (in nursing) in Maryland, and has periodically pursued further qualifications in the US while largely working in Brazil. Most recently, she completed an MBA at the University of Pittsburgh.
Professionally, she has worked in management mainly in the medical and pharmaceutics fields. She has managed operational activities and the timeline for several important clinical studies, in HIV, tuberculosis and lung cancer. She has built up much expertise in managing large projects. Having lived herself in more than one country, she sees relocation as just as great a challenge as any professional one.
‘Few people would consider São Paulo an easy place to move to,’ she says. ‘There are huge social problems which give it a poor reputation, especially in the foreign press, but it’s also a city of tremendous calor humano (human warmth). The friends you make here will probably be friends for life. There is so much to do for people of all ages, interests and tastes that the frustrations soon become a price worth paying. Once you learn to take the necessary safety precautions, find a home and have a little of the language and make a few friends, you will realize it is unique.’
