The fact that Jackie Rowan now lives 5,000 miles from the city where she spent the first 38 years of her life still comes as a shock to her!
She managed a medical practice in the Greater Manchester area of the UK for 14 years, thinking it a career for life. However, one particular day, her husband rang and uttered the momentous words “I’ve been offered a great new job. But it’s in Houston – so I know you won’t go!” Jackie still can’t work out happened that day to make her decide to Google Houston but the rest, as they say with predictable frequency, is history!
Three years later, Jackie is a huge fan of the Lone Star State and Houston feels like home. Having adapted to Texan-sized portions, people and cars and its crazy weather, she loves to help new arrivals deal with all that appears unfamiliar. “The amazingly high standard/low cost of housing and the award winning schools come as very pleasant surprises to many clients. It’s a wonderful place to be an expat as the people here are incredibly welcoming to all new arrivals and really care that you like their home state as much as they do. Their catchphrase ‘Don’t mess with Texas’ shows you how proud they are of their place in the USA.
